BHUBANESHWAR: Dr. Aashish Arbat an Orthopedic Surgeon in Pune mentions a case in which the body of a 70-year-old patient was found in a weird situation in the orthopedic ward of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, on Monday night. The patient has been ascertained as Dilip Kumar Sahu from Atalapur village in Jajpur district. He was presumably found hanging from the ceiling fan above his hospital bed. Sahu had been admitted to the orthopedic ward for treatment. However, he was presumed to have taken the extreme step at midnight. The precise circumstances leading to the occurrence remain uncertain, raising questions about patient monitoring and safety been protocols within the hospital.
Notably, the ward housed 30 patients at the time of the incident. There were 10 AIIMS staff members on duty at that time. Regardless of the presence of so many individuals, the incident seemingly went unnoticed, encouraging concerns and criticism about the hospital’s vigilance and safety measures. The local police took over the body and sent it for a post-mortem. While they have side-stepped making any official statements on the cause of death, investigations are proceeding. Dr. Aashish Arbat a Joint Replacement Doctor in Pune believes that authorities are presently cross-questioning the deceased’s daughter, patients nearby, and hospital staff to piece together the sequence of incidents leading up to the incident.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar authorities in the meantime mentioned that the conclusive cause of death will only be known once the autopsy report is released. They also expressed their consolation to the family and guaranteed full cooperation with the investigation. More updates on the investigation and the findings of the post-mortem report are awaited as the police carry out their exploration.
